Convergence of 6G, IoE, and Blockchain: Unveiling the Paradigm Shift in Supply Chain Dynamics and Its Future Trajectory

Blockchain and the Internet of Everything (IoE) have strong potential to change supply chain management (SCM) systems. However, the existing supply chain has drawbacks in terms of embracing blockchain technology and heterogeneous IoT ecosystems. Next-generation telecommunication network 6G has the potential to transform supply chain management (SCM) business models. The convergence of the future 6G, Blockchain, and the Internet of Everything (IoE) may enable the development of intelligent, resilient, and safe supply chains with ultra-fast and ultra-low latency. This study assesses the effect of emerging technologies on managerial and structural changes in supply chain management, with an emphasis on ensuring trust, cost reduction, and transparency. The study used a triangulation approach, where the results of a systematic literature review were validated with an empirical analysis of semi-structured interviews with supply chain managers. The triangulation approach of this research introduced two conceptual theoretical models, Blockchain-IoE-6G-Enabled Smart Supply Chain Management (BISS-SCM) and Adaptive Digital Supply Chain Transformation (ADST), to enable the transition of SCM organizations from the current landscape to decentralized digital hyperconnected networks. The results and outcome of the study reveal the divergence of the practical dimension of trust, sustainability, and long-term viability, and at the same time explain the significant congruence between the academic framework and SCM practitioners’ priority on optimization and efficiency.
